Frances Burke, Countess of Clanricarde (née Walsingham, formerly Devereux and Sidney; 1567 – 17 February 1633) was an English noblewoman. The daughter of Sir Francis Walsingham, Elizabeth I's Secretary of State, she became the wife of Sir Philip Sidney at age 16. Her second husband was Queen Elizabeth's favourite, Robert Devereaux, Earl of Essex, with whom she had five children. Two years after his execution in 1601, she married Richard Burke, Earl of Clanricarde, and went to live with him in Ireland.

Фи́лип Си́дни (англ. Philip Sidney; 30 ноября 1554 — 17 октября 1586) — английский поэт и общественный деятель елизаветинской эпохи. Принадлежал к высшей аристократии, состоял на дипломатической службе, заседал в Палате общин. Воевал в Нидерландах против Испании и был смертельно ранен в битве при Зютфене. Написал цикл сонетов «Астрофил и Стелла», трактат «Защита поэзии» и пасторальный роман «Аркадия», оставшийся незаконченным, причём всё это было опубликовано после его смерти.

Роберт Деверё (англ. Robert Devereux; 10 ноября 1565 — 25 февраля 1601) — английский аристократ, 2-й граф Эссекс с 1576 года, придворный, военачальник и фаворит английской королевы Елизаветы I. Впал в немилость после неудачных боевых действий во время войны в Ирландии в 1599 году, предпринял попытку государственного переворота, обвинён в измене и казнён.

Richard Burke (or de Burgh), 4th Earl of Clanricarde PC (Ire) ( də-BUR ... klan-RIK-ard; 1572 – 12 November 1635), styled Lord Dunkellin ( dun-KEL-in) until 1601, was an Irish nobleman and politician.
He was the son of Ulick Burke, 3rd Earl of Clanricarde. Knighted in 1602 for his exploits as leader of the English cavalry during the Battle of Kinsale, he would later serve as Lord President of Connaught from 1604 to 1616, Governor of Galway from 1616, and as a member of the Privy Council of Ireland (1625). Having established himself as the largest and most influential landowner in Connacht, his later life was characterized by animosity between him and an increasingly hostile and acquisitive Dublin government.
